How to Create a Gift They’ll Actually Keep | Crafting an Unforgettable & Intentional Gifts with These Tips

“Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”
1 Corinthians 10:31

Ever received a gift that felt…forgettable? Not that you weren’t grateful, but it didn’t really pertain to you at the time, or maybe life simply got in the way and it faded into the background.

At Beyond Beautiful by Ama, we believe the best gifts are the ones that stay with you—whether physical, emotional, or experiential. For me, the first and greatest gift I ever received was the love of God when He sent His Son to die on the cross for our sins. There is no greater love or gift than that. Who else do you know that would not only lay down their life for you but come back again?

That gift was thoughtful, personal, and made with the utmost care. It created an eternal memory, and it reminds me how we, too, can create gifts that our loved ones will keep—in their homes, their hearts, and their lives.

Tips for Creating a Meaningful Gift:

1. Think about the recipient’s personality

Are they sentimental, practical, artistic, or minimalist? Let their preferences guide the design.
I have a friend who loves cultivating experiences that bring her community together. I have another friend who loves to read—mostly romance—but she’s always open to new genres and perspectives. Reflecting on their personality and your time spent with them will help you cultivate a gift that speaks directly to them.

2. Consider their current life events

Graduating? Getting married? Starting a new job? Tailor the gift to commemorate the moment.
Where are they in their life? Life isn’t all sunshine and roses, so consider how your gift can be a blessing, not something that adds pressure or becomes burdensome. Let it be a light, a moment of encouragement.
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” — Matthew 5:14–16

3. Reflect on their values and beliefs

A faith-inspired message, scripture, or cultural element can make a gift feel deeply personal and intentional.

4. Focus on usability and beauty

A gift that’s both functional and aesthetically pleasing is more likely to be appreciated and used regularly.

5. Add a personal story or message

Include a handwritten note, a memory you share, an inside joke, or even a prayer that will make them feel seen and cherished.

If you are still struggling and don’t necessarily want to give a gift, draft a text message, a letter or an email. If need be, ask someone to help you craft it. A gift can be anything as long as it is intentional and relevant for the recipient.

6. Plan ahead

The most meaningful gifts are often the ones we don’t rush. Give yourself time to think, create, and package something that truly reflects your heart.

Also, think about your loved one's growth. We are all on different paths. My path doesn’t look like my brother’s, my cousin’s, or even my parents’. A great gift doesn’t just reflect who someone is right now but who you hope and pray they will grow to become.

Choose a gift that speaks to their journey, their purpose, and their story.
